Class Descriptions

Ashtanga Yoga uses a precise sequential order of postures linked by breath.  The Ashtanga Primary and Secondary Series will be the focus.  Movement, sun salutations & breath are key components.  This is an advanced class.

Core Yoga is a medium to fast-paced challenging class focusing on strengthening the core muscles of the body. This class blends traditional yoga postures with other core exercises including the use of stability balls. This class is aimed at those wanting a challenging and interesting mix of exercises to build core strength.  This class is 60 minutes.

Inversion Yoga is an advanced class for the experienced student.  This class starts with a fast paced flow designed to warm the body.  Once the body is prepared, the class focuses on inversions, including head stands, hand stands, forearm balances and more.  Expect to work hard and find your edge.  Some yoga experience is recommended.

Kundalini Yoga is an ancient form of yoga that was brought to the west by Yogi Bhajan, founder of 3HO (the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization).  Although Kundalini had not previously been taught to the public, Yogi Bhajan felt that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy its benefits.  The Kundalini is untapped energy or prana at the base of the spine that can be drawn up through the body awakening each of the seven chakras. Full enlightenment occurs when this energy reaches the Crown Chakra. Kundalini energy is often represented as a snake coiled at the base of the spine.  Each Kundalini Yoga series is done in conjunction with a specific breath that intensifies the effects of the poses with the purpose of freeing energy in the lower body and allowing it to move upwards. Kundalini sequences called kriyas may consist of rapid, repetitive movements done with breath or holding a pose while breathing in a particular way.

Level 1 Yoga includes mindful, slow paced floor poses, seated postures, spinal twisting, standing postures, gentle back bends, and deep breathing.  Props will be used when needed.  This is an ideal class for those new to yoga, as well as the experienced student who enjoys this gentle approach to their practice.  No experience is required.

Level 2 Yoga includes medium paced floor and seated postures, standing postures, back bends, and spinal twists, and breathing techniques.  More advanced poses will be offered on occasion.  Sun Salutations may or may not be included in this practice. Props will be used as needed and alignment will be discussed.  Some yoga experience is recommended, but not required for this class.

Level 3 Yoga is an advanced class for the experienced student.  This fast paced class offers more challenging poses focusing on the core, upper and lower body.  Expect to work hard and find your edge.  Some yoga experience is recommended.

Prenatal Yoga will provide safe and beneficial yoga postures for the pregnant woman, with emphasis on adapting your yoga practice throughout pregnancy.  The focus is on opening the hips, breathing, and meditation in preparation for the birth process.  Shoulder and back release are also discussed.

Postnatal Yoga will provide safe and beneficial yoga postures for women returning to yoga after giving birth.   The focus of this class is on the mother.  Children are welcome to attend, with changing and nursing space available.

Restorative Yoga is a gentle and meditative style of Yoga that uses props to support the body to deepen the benefits of the poses. It is a relaxing and restful practice that creates specific physiological responses that are beneficial to health and can reduce the effects of stress. It is a wonderful adjunct to an active yoga practice.  It can also be a great first class for a beginner or for those recovering from injury or illness.

Tai Chi consists of slow, gentle, non-strenuous movements ideal for persons of any age who want to stay flexible, increase energy and reduce stress.  It promotes health, balance, coordination and tranquility and leads to more graceful movement.  This class is 60 minutes long.  Please contact Mitch directly for more information or to register 610-873-1923 or mitch@mitchgoldfarb.com.
